Surrounded by orchards and the wetlands of the Etsch river valley, Gargazon lies at 276 metres above sea level on a moraine hill thrown up over the course of thousands of years by the Aschlbach stream.
The name comes from the famous waterfall with its seven cascades. The Greek word, 'gargarízein' means 'to gurgle'. A holiday flat in Gargazon makes the ideal base for hikes and excursions by bike. Movement and culture
Thanks to its mild climate, fruit growing dominates the landscape of Gargazon and is one of the most important sources of income for the inhabitants. The three deciduous trees depicted on the municipality crest bear witness to the fact that this industry held great significance in the past, too.
A holiday in Gargazon is really special during apple blossom season, when the buds of the different apple varieties open row by row, transforming the area into a fragrant, pink-white sea of blossom for a while. But the summer and autumn have lots to offer, too. The village of Gargazon features two listed churches – the Gothic Kurtialkirche church of St. John the Baptist and Sacred Heart parish church. The church of St. John is the jewel of the village. Its tower with barrel vaulting is 13.5 metres high and the altar, depicting the baptism of Christ, is made of marble. Construction of the neo-Romanesque Sacred Heart parish church was begun in 1899, as the Kurtialkirche had become too small for the local population, and was completed in 1902. The tower had to wait until 1930 before reaching its intended height. Particularly worth seeing is the mosaic of Jesus Christ with outstretched arms above the main entrance. St. John's Church houses a 14th century fresco alongside relics of St. Octonius. Old farmsteads and residences tell of past times, like the village fountain in the centre or the Kröllturm tower from the high Middle Ages on the eastern slopes of Gargazon, which was once a signal and watchtower.
 It's easy to combine cultural tours with sporting activity when staying in a holiday flat or room in Gargazon by taking advantage of the many walking paths in the surrounding area or setting out on a tour in the surrounding mountains. Holidaymakers who fancy cycling can take the cycle path along the Etsch river – either in the direction of Vinschgau or heading for the south towards Lake Garda.

On the apple trail
There are apple trees producing rare types of apples such as the small, red Annurca, Edelrote or Canada Reinette to be discovered on the apple educational trail in the sports grounds. The trail is dedicated to them so that they are not forgotten. We can learn about the history of fruit farming in the Etschtal valley and the names, appearance and ripening times of the apples from information boards. The apple trail is interesting and easy to complete for people of all ages. It also features a picnic spot, making it suitable for families. In addition, there are regular courses, workshops, guided tours and tasting sessions of different apple varieties.
