Apples and wine
The constrast between the fertile lowlands along the Etsch river and steeply-rising slopes is a significant one for agriculture in Naturns. Steppe-like Sonnenberg and green, densely-wooded Nörderberg will create a frame for your Farm Holiday in Naturns. 324 farms work an area of 5,851 hectares, with 56 of these being mountain farms. As in the rest of lower Vinschgau, the focus is on fruit farming, with 739 hectares of orchards compared with 20 hectares of vineyards. Vines thrive wonderfully on Sonnenberg, while mainly apples are grown in the valley basin. Fields are, on average, up to just three hectares in area. For this reason, lots of hard-working farmers in Naturns have looked for another source of income and take in Farm Holiday guests.
The church of St. Prokulus and its frescoes
The little church of St. Prokulus is situated on the eastern edge of the village of Naturns. It looks rather unprepossessing from the outside, but inside there are valuable frescoes. The most famous picture shows a man on a type of swing – probably St. Prokulus. The church wass built in the first half of the 7th century A.D., but researchers are not in agreement about the age of the frescoes. What is clear is that the wall paintings are the most complete cycle of early painting in Tyrol. A trip to St. Prokulus is always worthwhile on a Farm Holiday in Naturns.
Up to the Sonnenberg by cable car
A holiday flat or room in Naturns is a base for pleasant walks. Unterstell cable car takes passengers quickly upwards, arriving at 1,300 metres above sea level in five minutes, right on the Meran high altitude path. Before setting off in the Schnalstal or Partschins direction, a detour to Unterstell viewing platform is well worth it. After just ten minutes' walk, views may be had of the whole Vinschgau valley as far as Meran.
