A hiking and skiing holiday
The municipality of Rasen-Antholz, which consists of six villages as well as a few hamlets and farms, comprises Antholzer Tal and smaller areas in the Pustertal valley east of Bruneck. At the start there is Niederrasen, the main village of the parish, and Oberrasen. Then come Antholz Niedertal, Antholz Mittertal and the scattered settlement of Antholz Obertal.
At the end of the valley is Antholzer See, the third-largest lake in South Tyrol – an emerald amidst the dark green forests and glaciers of Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park. Leaving the lake, there are hikes and mountain bike tours in the surrounding Dolomites to do in summer, too. And for action-seekers in winter, and for those who prefer to gently weave down pistes instead of working up a sweat on cross-country runs, South Tyrol's largest ski resort is not far away. The municipality of Rasen-Antholz stretches up to the foot of Kronplatz mountain.

The start of autumn and 'Barthlmä'

Anyone staying in a holiday flat or room in Rasen-Antholz will find themselves at the centre of local practices now and again, for example, at 'Barthlmä'. St. Bartholomew is the patron saint of farmers, shepherds and vintners.
On the 24th August, St. Bartholomew's Day, the autumn begins for farmers. This day is a significant one, as there is a rural saying that the weather on this day defines how the weather will be over the next few weeks or even months, and that a thunderstorm on this day will brings hail and snow. The grain harvest has to be finished on this day. In Rasen, a market takes place in honour of St. 'Barthlmä' selling farm products as well as farm handcrafts. At the same time, there is also the slightly more modern mushroom, polenta and strudel festival, which serves up typical regional dishes to treat visitors' tastebuds.
As well as in Rasen-Antholz, a 'Barthmlä' day also takes place in Rodeneck, where a fete is held on Rodenecker Alm pastures southeast of Mühlbach at the start of Pustertal valley and on the Ritten plateau. Here, a 'Barthlmämarkt' market, a large festival on mountain pastures and the 'Almabtrieb' event of driving cattle down from the mountains, attract lots of visitors year after year.
