Experience rural culture
Everywhere in Wengen, you may find 'Viles', which are traditional ensembles of rural dwellings and outhouses typical for the place. The inhabitants of Wengen are keen musicians and singing and playing music in groups is encouraged. The main source of income for lots of locals is livestock farming, along with Farm Holidays, where guests can witness daily life on a farm and sometimes taste the garden vegetables.

There are lots of simple little hay barns on the pastures of the Rit and Armentara meadows with a building style going back to 100 B.C. Nowadays, these huts are largely just used as storerooms for equipment and some of them have also been converted into small huts for free time use.
Wengen has a marked agricultural and artisanal tradition. In the artisanal zone in Pederoa, you can visit cabinet-making workshops and other businesses. The centuries-old tapestry workshops are also interesting.

Tradition and culture
Lots of festivals and events pick up on old traditions in Wengen. In summer, the Sonns y Saus event takes place on the meadows of Armentara. Ladin specialities such as Turtres, or ravioli filled with spinach and curd cheese, and Furtaies, or spiral-shaped fried desserts, are on sale. Local choirs and folk music groups provide the music.
In August, at the Segra da Paur, guests can walk through the characteristic hamlets and become witnesses to some impressive Ladin traditions accompanied by traditional music. As on the weekly guided walks, traditional dishes are served. Those Farm Holiday guests interested in art should not miss the many sights of Wengen, such as the graveyard chapel of Altwengen, which is one of the oldest buildings in the valley, the 'Widum', or priest's house, with its Baroque frescoes and the church with the former Baroque high altar and the ceiling paintings by Max Gher.
