Mountain hike „Hochstein 2469m“
Starting from the parish church (1400m) in San Maddalena briefly follow the road into the valley, then cross over the stream, following the agricultural road no. 47 through the Köfler Valley south-eastwards up until the fork. Turn right and by continuing on the forest road no. 48 walk up through the forest to the Tscharnietalm (1976m, not a refreshment point). Proceed on path no. 48 again in south-eastward direction to another fork. Turn right south-eastwardly and over rocky terrain climb up the steep mountain trail no. 48 to a flat basin of the west ridge of the Kerlspitze (2500m); continue over the ridge and to your right to another basin (2438m) and soon reach the mountain Hochstein at 2469m. Descent: the path no. 48 leads to Gerichtshals (2239m) through Verselltal valley further to hut Tolder Hütte (1942m, refreshment possibility) and hut Hinterschuher Alm-Randlhütte (1862m, refreshment possibility) and finally to S.Martino. To get to the starting point you can either use the bus or take the path Talblickweg (ca. 30 min).
Coming from Innsbruck/Brennero (A): Drive on the Highway of Brennero (A22) until the exit Bressanone/Val Pusteria, then go on along the SS49-E66 for about 58kms until you arrive in Monguelfo. To get to Tesido and the Val Casies Valley, we recommend to take the exit West in Monguelfo. Coming from Lienz (A): You can reach us also padding by Lienz in Westtyrol (A). You have to cross the Austrian-Italian border between Ahrnbach and Winnebach (B100-E66) and drive on the SS46-E66 until Monguelfo. To get to Tesido and the Val Casies, we recommend to take the exit West in Monguelfo.
