In autumn, the apple plateau of Natz-Schabs centres around apples, and this festival is celebrated in their honour.
The Apple Festival starts in the morning with popular music, 'Weisswurst' and pretzels. Visitors can taste a variety of freshly-harvested apples. In the afternoon there’s a parade through the village of Natz with beautifully-decorated festival floats, musical bands and guests of honour in a festival carriage. The highlights of the event are the coronation of the Natz-Schabs Apple Queen and the float with an enormous Apple Crown made of bright red and yellow apples, which attract many visitors every year. The newly-crowned Apple Queen will represent the apple plateau and South Tyrol at various national and international events for a year. The traditional apple strudel cutting represents the inauguration of the new sovereign. Lots of local products are on offer at the Farmers’ Market and there’s also entertainment for the kids. The apple festival is drawn to a close in the early evening by musical entertainment.
