In Kastelbell in Vinschgau, farmers and eateries are dedicating a unique gourmet event to asparagus.
It is traditional to grow asparagus in South Tyrol and not just in Terlan. Vinschgau, around Kastelbell-Tschars, is another place where asparagus is cultivated. This practice goes back to 1988 in Kastelbell, and now around 3 hectares are given over to growing asparagus. The harvest takes place between April and June and most of the yield ends up in local restaurants, meaning that the asparagus served there doesn't get any fresher.
From mid-April to end-May, Kastelbell-Tschars is transformed into a culinary centre that treats visitors to excellent asparagus dishes and fine wines. Every year, a varied entertainment programme involving music and themed walks with a focus on enjoying the good things in life is organised.
