Visitors can taste, enjoy and buy all types of cheese for three whole days at this epicurean event for cheese lovers.
In this Alpine pasture valley and region of eighty 3,000 metres, over 100 producers from South Tyrol, Italy and much of Europe present more than 1,000 different types of cheese. Alpine and farmstead cheese dairies, along with cooperative cheese dairies present their specialities, whether it’s fresh cheese, semi-hard cheese, Alpine cheese, grey cheese or mozzarella. There’s a trade fair for cheese specialists along with the cheese and gourmet market, plus an extensive supporting programme with cooking demonstrations, tastings and a children's programme. You can also treat your palate to food at restaurants and other eateries which feature cheese on their menus as part of the festival. The cheese festival in Sand in Taufers, which originally started off with just twelve visitors, has since become an industry highlight and one of the most important events in Italy. Cheese specialities with farm-fresh ingredients are also offered under the ‘Roter Hahn’ brand.
