Guided hikes, felting afternoons and a speciality week with culinary treats featuring the ‘Villnöss Brillenschaf’ sheep breed.
Pandas aren’t the only animals with white fur and black rings round their eyes - the ‘Villnösser Brillenschaf’ sheep breed have them too.
This breed, formerly known as "Pötscher", is one of the oldest sheep breeds in Europe. As early as the 18th century, they provided farmers with excellent wool. Today, the Villnöss Brillenschaf is a symbol of authenticity and regionality and is especially appreciated for its top quality meat.
Every year, the Villnöss Brillenschaf Lamb Speciality Weeks takes place in Villnöss. Various local guesthouses will be serving up tasty lamb and mutton dishes. There will also be a felt craft afternoon and guided hikes on the theme of ‘Villnöss Brillenschaf’ sheep or wine are on the programme during the speciality weeks.
