The Meransen Cattle Drive celebrates the safe return of livestock from the Alpine pastures with a large farmers' festival.
The Meransen Cattle Drive has a long tradition and is now a true South Tyrolean folk festival. Various folk dance groups, traditional costume groups, Schuhplattler groups, the Meransen ‘Schützen’ band and South Tyrolean musicians from all over the region take part in the procession of colourfully-decorated cattle. In addition to the cows, Haflinger horses with riders and carriages parade through the village. At the traditional farmers' festival that follows, farmwomen prepare delicious specialities such as "Tirtlan" or doughnuts, as well as many other tasty treats. At the adjacent market, original South Tyrolean handicrafts such as "Sarner Potschen" or genuine "Ahrntaler Klöppelarbeiten" are on offer. South Tyrolean honey, farmhouse bacon, apples, schnapps and Alpine cheese and much more are also on sale.
