The history of potatoes in Niederdof and Upper Pustertal valley is well extablished. After the war, this valley was a major cultivation area for seed potatoes and regular potatoes. The Niederdorf Potato Festival is all about the potato, which is called the ‘Putschtra Erdäpfl’ in dialect. Stalls offer typical Tyrolean dishes and menus featuring Pustertal valley potatoes for visitors to try. The festival offers a great chance to find out about potato growing, potato characteristics, and the different types of potatoes in the Pustertal valley. When you sample the traditional homemade dishes, you will be impressed by the taste and variety of this wonderful vegetable. The Niederdorf farmers offer typical home-made, natural products for sale at their stands. As well as potatoes, there are also beetroots, cabbages,eggs, honey, natural juices, jams, cheeses and milk products from grass-fed cattle. There’s also a very good supporting programme for old and young.
