The Easter game ‘Guffen’, also known as ‘Goggele-Pecken’, is particularly popular in Niederdorf and is combined with a competition.
On Easter Sunday, after mass, the local community goes to the main square, where the traditional ‘Preisguffen’ takes place. This is a very old custom in which people try to break the hard-boiled, coloured egg of their opponent: first by knocking the two pointed ends of the egg against each other, then the sides of the egg. The winner is the one whose egg is not broken. This year's Easter Sunday Preisguffen will again take place at the Von Kurz Platz in Niederdorf. The eggs can be bought on the main square, and the Young Farmers from Niederdorf will dye them and mark them with the letters SBJ so that there’s no cheating! There are also very nice prizes for the winners. The popular Easter game ‘Guffen’, also called ‘Goggele-Pecken’, is not only played in Niederdorf, but in the whole of South Tyrol on Easter Sunday.
