The mountain village of Schalders has 300 inhabitants and it is the only major settlement in the valley. It lies in a quiet spot at 1,150 metres above sea level. In the centre is the parish church of St. Wolfgang, which was consecrated in 1436 before being adapted two hundred years later and extended in typical baroque style. The altarpiece depicts St. Wolfgang and was a gift from the neighbouring village of Neustift, which is home to the Augustinian monastery of Neustift – one of the most important monasteries in all Tyrol. As well as visiting the parish church, guests should head for one of any number of mountain peaks in the Sarntal Alps that surround the valley.

Boredom has no chance to take hold on a Farm Holiday in Schalders, as there is a range of different options. Hikers, active holidaymakers, but most of all nature lovers, will have found the right place. Schalders makes an ideal base for a variety of hikers and ski tours. The Schrüttensee lakes, for example, are not to be missed: they lie at 1,950 metres above sea level, picturesque and crystal-clear and surrounded by rocks and forest. If you are looking for a challenge, there is the Schalders mountain peak circuit, which finishes at Königsanger mountain.

Ski tours and mountain bikes

Schalderer Tal valley is not only ideal for hikers wanting to enjoy a Farm Holiday, but also for ski tourers and mountain bikers. This valley, about eight kilometres in length, is surrounded on both sides by forest and great ski tours amidst idyllic countryside may be done to the Gaishorn or sunny Karspitze mountains.

During the summer, forestry roads are ideal for mountain bikes or e-bikes. A long tour immersed in nature runs from Schalders to Franzensfeste, further on to Brixen and back again. It’s worth stopping at the Spilucker Scharte ridge, which lies along the route – although this is best left to experienced mountain bikers.
