Hikes where you can stop by at a farmhouse inn

More and more guests like to combine a visit to a farmhouse inn with a rewarding hike. More and more guests like to combine a visit to a farmhouse inn with a rewarding hike. In fact, many such inns are located along South Tyrol's popular mountain trails, such as the Algunder Waalweg, the Meran High-altitude trail or the famous Chestnut Trail. But there are also quite a few insider tips.

Wine taverns (Buschenschank) offer 100% in-house wine and are located in climatically milder areas which is where wine and chestnuts thrive. They are therefore particularly suitable as destinations in autumn and spring, when it is usually too cold for extended mountain tours to higher altitudes. Many wine taverns are located along the popular Chestnut Trail, which winds along the wine-growing area of the Eisack valley from Brixen to Bolzano.

If you want to go higher, it is best to choose a high mountain farmhouse inn, i.e. a Hofschank as your destination. At the Vinschger Sonnenberg, for example, the Meran high-altitude trail as well as the Vinschger high-altitude trail are ideal to reach the Roter Hahn farmhouse inns in the Vinschgau. But worthwhile hiking trails also lead to high mountain farmhouse inns in other areas such as Eisacktal, Pustertal or Gadertal. You can find them in the hiking tips on the interactive map.
